For those wanting a thorough grounding in how to throw on the wheel.

Your tutors Jenny and Bev, will teach you the skills and techniques needed for centering and throwing simple bowls and cylinders on the wheel. You will also be taught how to trim/turn your pots on the wheel when they are leather-hard.

You will be taught about the different firings, as well as how to glaze your pot properly.

Jenny specialises in domestic ware, working mostly in high-fired reduction stoneware. She uses traditional glazes which she modifies to create movement and colour.

“I love both the meditative feeling of throwing familiar shapes and exploring new forms, the adventure of testing new glazes and the unpredictable nature of the whole ceramic process.”

Students must:

  • Be 18+

  • Bring their own clay tools (beginner tool sets are available for purchase in the office on the night of the first class)

  • Purchase their own clay (available at ASP)

  • Firing and glazes at student cost

  • Provide own dust mask and gloves for glazing

Please note:

  • ASP is only able to fire the clay brands/types that ASP stock

  • Clean up and set up times are within the 2.5 hours allocated for class time - any pre studio time must be paid for at the office.
