ASP is very excited to host John Tuckwell from Australia, who will be holding a weekend workshop focusing on constructing pieces made from coloured porcelain slip.
The workshop will be held on the 30th and 31st of March at the centre, from 9:30am - 4pm. The fee is $300 for non-members, and $250 for members of ASP. Click here to book!
Initially self taught, and having made simple works in clay for many years, John Tuckwell completed a Diploma of Arts at the Australian National University, Canberra. From that point John started to work with porcelain, seeking inspiration from his surrounding natural environment.
The idea for this workshop is to provide a depth of technical information which participants will use to construct pieces made of coloured porcelain slip. John will cover the following areas:
Why slip and why porcelain
Loving your slip. How to mix and maintain runny clay.
Mixing paper into slip
Blending and colouring porcelain slips
Simple slip casting. Making a story inside a mold
Demonstration of making a plaster slab
Laminating coloured clay on and off a plaster slab
Adding colour after casting
Joining A to B - Construction techniques
Sources of inspiration.
Here are some wonderful examples of John’s work (and you can find more on his website - check it out!)
