Tony began pottery as a 12-year old at school in England. When he and Jean arrived in New Zealand in 1976, he decided to take it up again, and started classes at ASP, his first teacher being Pat Perrin. He took the plunge to become a full-time potter in 1981, and set up his first studio in Mt Eden. He was lucky enough to be invited to join Peter Lange and Lex Dawson at the Potters' Arms in Dominion Road, and credits a lot of his early development to the influence of those two great potters and teachers.
He was a founder member of the Pots of Ponsonby pottery cooperative.
As an ASP member Tony has at various times been a student, tutor, committee member, newsletter editor, stand-in centre administrator, software developer and website designer.
While he is no longer actively potting, he still has a great interest in ASP, and currently maintains the ASP website. He also sponsors the annual domestic ware competition.
